Community Pantry Feeds Hungry Families

The holidays are a time for giving to friends and family as well as those in need. This holiday season we would like to recognize the work of the Boardman Food Pantry, a local organization that helps members of our community in need year-round.

Threemile Canyon Farms believes in helping our community by supporting its families and businesses. Since we got our start here, we have been an active member of our community. One of the more recent organizations we are proud to partner with is the Boardman Food Pantry.

The Boardman Food Pantry came to life during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic when people living in the area began to suffer from food insecurity. To help those in need, a group of local volunteers came together in a single room of a church and began providing meal boxes to local families. Word of the work the volunteers were doing spread quickly and with support from volunteers and local businesses, the Boardman Food Pantry was born.

Now in its second year, the Boardman Food Pantry has grown and continues to make a significant impact on the community. With the help of dedicated community members and businesses, the pantry now provides food to over one hundred families each week, an increase over about 50 families each week in 2021.

Threemile is just one of many local businesses that wanted to help support the pantry and the work they do. “Threemile's support has allowed the Boardman Food Pantry to fill the gaps in needed items,” said Mary Killion, volunteer with the Boardman Food Pantry. “We strive to provide nutritionally balanced boxes and having resources to add items as needed is critical. We would not be able to accomplish what we do without Threemile's support, “she said.

The services the pantry offers continue to grow with support from Morrow County which is now providing rent and utility assistance to people who need it. In addition, they have hired a pantry manager who can provide reliable resources and a personal contact for clients.

The pantry has bi-weekly pickup times on Mondays from 9:30-11:00 a.m. and Thursdays from 6:00-7:00 p.m. for families in need. To learn more about the Boardman Food Pantry and ways you can support its mission, visit their website.
