From England to Eastern Oregon: Threemile Welcomes Agriculture Club
| Posted in: News
Connecting with individuals who share a passion for agriculture and are eager to share their experiences is something the team at Threemile Canyon Farms truly cherishes. We take immense pleasure in welcoming visitors to our operation, allowing them to witness firsthand our commitment to responsible farming and our best-in-class animal welfare program in action.
Earlier this summer, a group of farmers from the United Kingdom came across the pond to explore US agriculture, specifically in Oregon and Southern Washington.
The group, called The Grasshoppers Club, got its start in 1941 and was named because the farmers were said to be just like grasshoppers, jumping from grass to corn and back again. It has about 50 members today. They started during a time when food was scarce, and socializing was rare due to WWII. It now represents the more forward-thinking and progressive farmers in the South of England.
This June, 22 of The Grasshoppers spent 9 days exploring Oregon and Southern Washington, visiting more than 10 farms and spending part of a day at Threemile Canyon Farms.
At Threemile, the group met with General Managers, Dr. Jeff Wendler and Greg Harris, and Threemile Nutritionist, Dr. Ehrin Dawson, to see the full scope of the dairy and farming operation. Throughout the tour, the team and our guests shared experiences and compared practices between the two regions.
“We left Oregon in awe of the standard and productivity of the farming over there and hope to bring some of that learning back to our own farms,” said Club Chairman James Hewetson-Brown.
The Threemile team enjoyed hosting the group and hopes to continue the connection long into the future.
“Meeting people with a passion for agriculture who are willing to share their experiences and practices is not only fun but impactful,” said Dr. Jeff Wendler, Threemile Livestock General Manager. "These guests were a joy to have on our place and we look forward to return visits.”
