Honoring Our Veterans: A Spotlight on Nick Benavides, U.S. Army Veteran and Threemile Agronomy Director

At Threemile Canyon Farms, we are proud to have several veterans a part of our team. Today, we want to recognize and thank all past and current service members for their invaluable contributions. In particular, we want to highlight Nick Benavides, a U.S. Army Veteran, and Threemile Director of Agronomy.

Following in the footsteps of his grandfather, father, uncles, and cousins, he joined the U.S. Army in 2000. He attended Basic and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, where he trained as a Combat Engineer. He was then assigned to the 101st Airborne Air Assault at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, where his squad supported an infantry company.

In 2001, he deployed to Kosovo for a six-month peacekeeping mission. During this time, his responsibilities included destroying mines, using explosives, and building obstacles.

After his military service, he pursued higher education. Although he found the transition challenging, his military discipline helped him succeed.

Nick has been a valued member of the Threemile team for 19 years. He started as a college intern and now serves as the Agronomy Director, overseeing the agronomy department at all our farms in the Northwest. In this role, he collaborates with farmers to make fertilizer and chemical recommendations for our diverse range of crops. He particularly enjoys finding new ways to be efficient with fewer inputs while achieving high-yielding crops, and he thrives on the challenges that come with growing crops.

Nick’s military experience taught him the importance of hard work, maintaining motivation, and following orders without letting anyone down. We are deeply grateful for his service and dedication.
