Threemile Canyon Farms Celebrates National Farm Safety & Health Week
| Posted in: News
Each September, we recognize National Farm Safety and Health Week to raise awareness about the critical importance of farm safety. At Threemile Canyon Farms, our top priority is ensuring a safe environment for our team members so they can return home safely to their families each day.
Farm safety is a continuous effort that involves multiple strategies and collaboration across departments. For example, we have a dedicated safety committee, hold monthly meetings, conduct regular training sessions, and employ a full-time safety director.
To acknowledge this week, we want to introduce our Threemile Director of Safety, Brady Johnson, who joined the team earlier this spring, by doing a Q&A.
What is your background?
I graduated from Central Washington University with a degree in Safety and Health Management. I have over 13 years of experience in Environmental, Safety, and Health, ranging from time spent in the Gulf of Mexico on the Deep Water Horizon oil spill, working within the Hanford Nuclear clean-up site and managing large groups of Safety and Industrial Hygiene personnel for various companies; leading to my current role at Threemile as the Director of Safety.
What does a typical day look like for you?
A typical day for me involves conducting inspections across the farm and dairy facilities, writing, reviewing, and updating protocols/policies, and training staff on best practices. I also investigate any incidents to determine their causes and implement corrective actions. Additionally, I spend time ensuring that we comply with all relevant regulations and standards, and I often collaborate with other departments to address any safety concerns that arise.
How do you ensure safety at Threemile?
To ensure safety at Threemile, I implement a range of strategies. This includes regular inspections to identify and mitigate risks, providing ongoing training for all employees, and maintaining a comprehensive safety program that covers everything from equipment maintenance to emergency response procedures. I also emphasize the importance of safety communication, encouraging staff to report hazards and near-misses, which helps us address potential issues before they escalate.
What has been your favorite part of the job so far?
My favorite part of the job is seeing the positive impact of our safety initiatives on the well-being of our team. It’s rewarding to know that our efforts contribute to a safer working environment and help prevent accidents. I also enjoy the collaborative aspect of the role—working with different departments to enhance practices and finding solutions to challenges that arise.
The agriculture industry is recognized as one of the most hazardous sectors by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. At Threemile, we prioritize employee safety above all else, every single day. This week serves as a powerful reminder of the critical importance of maintaining a safe working environment.
