Celebrating Leadership and Farming Passion for International Women's Day
At Threemile Canyon Farms, our commitment to sustainable farming and animal welfare is driven by our incredible team. In celebration of Women's History Month throughout the month of March and International Women's Day on March 8th, we are highlighting a few of the women leaders who work tirelessly every day to improve the ways we grow crops and be a part of a diverse team committed to growing food for a growing population.
Zone Supervisor Katie Morter began her work at Threemile as an intern in 2017, but her passion for agriculture started long before that. With deep ties to Threemile, Katie credits her father, who also works here, as one of her biggest influences in pursuing a career in agriculture. After graduating college in 2020, she began working as a Zone Supervisor, helping manage an area of crops. She says that starting out as an intern helped her reach the leadership role she has today by building relationships with her team and learning what her strong points are. "My favorite part of working in ag is that there is a new challenge every day. I love the challenge of finding better ways of growing crops and making the whole system work."

This summer, Agronomist Maria Greenwalt will be celebrating her 12th year at Threemile. Growing up on a family farm and participating in 4-H and FFA instilled an early love of the agricultural industry. Maria earned a degree in Crop and Soil Science from Oregon State University, which eventually led her to a career at Threemile. She reached the leadership role she has today by taking new opportunities, which have allowed her to grow. She says her favorite parts about working in agriculture are "the people, the crops, the ability to do work that makes a difference, and how every season is different."
As a fifth-generation farmer, the love for agriculture runs deep in Amellia Haguewood's veins. This June will mark her 20th year at Threemile as an Agronomist. Growing up, she worked on her family's farm and now continues to farm alongside her husband. After graduating from college, she began her career at Threemile. Since then, she has gotten to the leadership role she has today by taking on projects, supporting farmers, and training and mentoring colleagues. Amellia's favorite aspect of working in agriculture is the opportunity to help feed millions of people with the crops we grow for food and dairy feed. "Seeing all the effort that goes into a crop finally result in a harvest has always been a favorite part of my job," she says.

Growing up, Brittany Casperson, the Maternity Manager at Threemile, developed a deep interest in agriculture while working on her family’s dairy farm. This early exposure instilled a passion for the agricultural field. A pivotal moment came when she shadowed Nutritionist Ehrin Dawson at Threemile, solidifying her career interest. After gaining experience with the nutrition team, Brittany took the opportunity to lead the maternity team. In this leadership role, she focuses on enhancing their skills and striving towards the vision of being a "Leader in Cost; Gold Standard in Quality." Brittany finds great satisfaction in her role, saying, "Working in agriculture is very rewarding as you can often see the results of your hard work and dedication each day. An added bonus is working with the team and the friendliest cows at Threemile.
